As part of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Government Affairs team, Howard Handler serves as Government Affairs Director for the North Shore – Barrington Association of REALTORS® and the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® (Lake County). Handler’s professional background lies in politics and government, serving in key positions for a number of candidates and elected officials. Most recently Handler served an aide to Commissioner Larry R. Rogers, Jr. at the Cook County Board of Review – an agency mandated to review and rule on property tax assessment appeals. Prior to work at the Board or Review, Handler worked as an aide for Commissioner Frank Avila at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago – the fourth largest government agency in Illinois.
As a campaign staffer and political consultant, Handler mapped and executed strategy on a number of high-profile campaigns on the federal, state and local level, including Melissa Bean’s campaign for Congress, John Schmidt’s campaign for Governor, and Manny Flores’s campaign for Chicago Alderman.
In his role as an advocate for real estate, in addition to working hand-in-hand with Illinois REALTORS®, Handler is a regular speaker before local community groups and a point of contact for national and local media.
Howard maintains his Illinois real estate broker’s license and is a former member of the International Association of Assessing Officers. A native of Northbrook, Illinois, Handler received his undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his master’s in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University.
