REALTOR® Max Mitchell Receives Illinois Association of REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Max Mitchell, CRS, GRI, a broker with RE/MAX Realty Associates in Champaign, was named a recipient of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® 2011 Distinguished Service Award. The award honors individuals who have provided outstanding contributions and service to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) and their local communities. Mitchell received the award October 11 at the IAR Business Meetings in St. Charles.

Mitchell began his real estate career in 1975. He has been actively involved in his local association of REALTORS® and served two terms as president of the Champaign County Association of REALTORS®, in 1992 and again in 2010.

For the past 18 years, he has been an active member of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® with leadership roles as chair of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Trustees, the IAR Political Fundraising Working Group and as a member of the Major Donor Working Group. He is a longtime IAR key contact to Illinois U.S. Representative Timothy Johnson through his involvement as a Federal Political Coordinator. He received the IAR Presidential Medallion Award in 1996 and the IAR Political Involvement Award in 2007.

For the National Association of REALTORS®, Mitchell has served on the Issues Mobilization Committee as well as on the Political Communications Committee and Political Grassroots and Fundraising Forum. He served as a director for the National Association of REALTORS® from 1996-1999.

A resident of Champaign, he is married to Betsy Mitchell and is an accomplished hot air balloon pilot. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, he also has donated his time to several committees of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and served as president and on the board of directors for the Home Builders Association of East Central Illinois.
 
Also receiving the 2011 IAR Distinguished Service Award was REALTOR® Judy Stowe, a broker with Baird & Warner in Glen Ellyn.

In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, the Illinois Association of REALTORS® works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation that safeguards and advances the rights of real property ownership.
