Broadbooks Joins the Illinois Association of REALTORS® as Communications Director
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Jon K. Broadbooks was named Communications Director of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® and will begin his new role for the statewide trade association on January 9, 2012.
Since 2008 Broadbooks has served as executive editor for The State Journal-Register a 48,000-circulation daily newspaper covering Springfield, Illinois, and the surrounding communities.
Among his accomplishments for the newspaper are introducing specialty websites targeting political and medical niches as well as managing the news website sj-r.com, which receives more than 5 million page views monthly. In 2011 he assumed oversight of editorial operations for a sister publication, the Lincoln Courier.
“We are pleased to have an experienced and accomplished communications leader join the Illinois Association of REALTORS® staff at the IAR headquarters in Springfield,” said Gary L. Clayton, CAE, RCE, chief executive officer of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. “Our association is the sixth largest state REALTOR® association in the country and our 44,000 members are active politically and as strong advocates for a healthy business environment. We look to Jon’s expertise to help communicate the Illinois REALTOR®’s unique role in protecting private property rights.”
Prior to his work for The State Journal-Register, Broadbooks was the top newsroom editor for The Observer-Dispatch in Utica, N.Y., and The Hattiesburg (Miss.) American. He has held editing and reporting positions at newspapers in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Broadbooks holds a bachelor’s degree in History/Political Science from King College in Bristol, Tenn., and a master’s degree in Communications from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
He has served as a national board member for the Associated Press Managing Editors from 2007 to the present and as a board member of the Illinois Associated Press Editors Association since 2010.
A native of Athens, Georgia, Broadbooks, 45, lives in Chatham with his wife, Catherine, and their three children.
