Take action and urge Illinois legislators to support Senate Bill 2664, which provides protections for people buying foreclosed condominium units. Under current law, buyers may unexpectedly find themselves on the hook for unpaid assessments, fees, fines and attorneys' fees. SB 2664 limits the unpaid assessments owed by potential buyers and requires that buyers be given notice of any outstanding costs before they make an offer. Weather and lower inventory impacted February home sales, which decreased 6.2 percent compared to previous-year levels. But the statewide median price rose 6.9 percent during the same time to $132,500, according to the latest IAR housing report. IAR President Phil Chiles said that while the beginning of 2014 has been bedeviled with bad weather, rising home prices should prove attractive to Illinois homeowners who may have hesitated to sell in the past.
