REALTORS® from throughout Illinois help build home for
Habitat for Humanity

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. — Members of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) are building a house for Habitat for Humanity this month in Murphysboro.

REALTORS® from throughout the state have been taking part in the project, which began April 4, and is expected to be completed May 10. The Illinois Association of REALTORS® and local REALTOR® associations, including the Egyptian Board of REALTORS®, the REALTOR® Association of Southwestern Illinois and the Greater Gateway Association of REALTORS® have pledged money and volunteer labor to complete the Murphysboro project.

IAR has partnered with Jackson/Union County Habitat for Humanity on the project. The project, which is one of three planned for the state this year, is being built at 1914 Clarke St. in Murphysboro.

“REALTORS® are in the business of helping people find a place to call their own,” said Phil Chiles, president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. “It makes it extra special for our members that we can help a family realize the American Dream of homeownership that might not otherwise have had that opportunity.”

Chiles has worked on numerous Habitat for Humanity projects nationwide, including along the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He’s on the board of Sangamon County Habitat for Humanity, based in Springfield.

Chiles committed IAR to building three Habitat homes when he was inaugurated as president in October, 2013. Other homes will be built in Springfield and Aurora, with work extending throughout the summer.

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® represents 41,000 members engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry.

For media partners:

REALTOR® volunteers will be at the job site through April 10, then back April 21-23 and May 8-10. Work typically begins at 9 a.m. and extends until 4-5 p.m.
